Valentine’s Day is either a holiday we try to ignore, or we try to celebrate and end up disappointed at feeble Hallmark-ish gifts and sentiment. To be honest, I’ve never been a big fan. Not because I am unromantic, but because it can be mind-numbingly cheesy and generic. I saw an Ellen von Unwerth exhibit this past weekend and was immediately inspired by a true artist’s ability to draw out personality we didn’t know we had and angles we haven’t seen; adding that mystery back into our visual record.
